How did you first hear about the Mizu Custom program?Matt met Mizu at a coffee convention. We are gear dorks. We love good gear and we were immediately drawn to the quality of Mizu and the background of the company. As a 100% organic coffee company we are always looking to work with other like-minded, quality driven companies who work to promote great products with an environmental ethos. Reducing the amount of plastic water bottles and paper cups is an obvious fit for us. We are constantly looking to improve our environmental exposure, promoting the use of reusable good for drinks and coffee beans and using biodegradable and recyclable products for anything that might be disposed. We are also a lifestyle oriented company, and love to work with other likeminded companies in this regard. We look to support our community members and employees in all the things that make a Missoula life unique. We don’t live here to work, we live here because of our incredible access to the outdoors.

What about Mizu and their custom program made it a great fit for your brand? MIZU was incredibly easy to work with. Our goal with any product we sell is that it be durable and extremely usable. Coffee is something that is part of people’s every day, and is held at ritual status for many of us. It is also something we will not sacrifice when we are in the backcountry or camping and quite the contrary, it is often these times that we look forward to experiencing our coffee the most, so it is paramount that we have good, solid, usable equipment for this most important part of our day. Mizu acts like a tool in this regard. We love to adventure with our coffee, and Mizu makes products that can keep up with us.

What is your favorite product in the Mizu line up and how did you choose your custom product? We are quite enamored with the water bottles and steel camp cup equally. The water bottle has a perfect balance and weight, and is perfectly suited for filling with ice and cold brew coffee... and the matte finish! I love that. The insulated steel mug is just right. Retains heat, has plenty of capacity, and walls tall enough that even in the car on a gravel road the coffee doesn’t spill. It is perfect for sitting next to a campfire on a fall morning.

Does your brand support a cause initiative? Missoula is home to one of the highest densities of environmental and social non-profits in the country, and we are lucky to get to work with and donate to a number of them. Wilderness issues are really important to us as well as many of the surrounding issues with regards to public lands and access. We love to help people working on all facets of environmental issues from wilderness and forest land conservation, to outdoor education, and environmental restoration projects. We want to not only avoid contributing to environmental degradation as a company, but alway seek to actively support organizations that are helping the planet and the people that inhabit it.

How does your brand live a Mizu Life? We love to be out of doors and share the experiences to help bring about the awesomeness of the outdoors to a generation of people that are more tied to electronics and a synthetic living environment than the world has ever seen. We love to inspire people to put down their phone, leave their desks and get outside. There is no better place to wander than the great outdoors. Albert Einstein wrote “Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.” This, I think is what ties companies like Mizu and Black Coffee, we are looking to contribute to an experience that is bigger than any one of us can provide. We are part of a community of like minded individuals hoping to inspire others to look outside and adventure and wander, because the earth is an incredible planet and a precious place to not only not pollute, but to get out and experience.
