Don’t want to cut back on takeout food? None of our business. Can’t stop the Netflix binges? That’s fine with us. Want to cut back on single-use plastic because you want to protect our awesome planet? We’re all in to help you out!

#PlasticFreeJuly is here, and we want to make it easy for you to cut back on single-use plastics. Plastic pollution is one of the biggest environmental issues our planet faces and it’s filling our oceans at an alarming rate. In fact, plastic is so pervasive that invisible amounts are even turning up in our drinking water. One of the most effective ways to reduce your own plastic footprint is to use reusables. Here are the 3 easiest daily changes we can all take to make a difference.

SAY NO TO BOTTLED WATER

Bottled water is often municipal tap water filtered at a premium price. Other “fresh source” bottled waters have traveled from overseas --  adding an even greater carbon footprint to that final thirst-quenching moment. This is an easy one to fix -- invest in a reusable water bottle and take it with you whenever you leave the house. Whether you want a small, lightweight bottle like our S4 to pop in your purse or a bigger insulated bottle like our V8 to keep your water cool on a hike, the key to mastering the reusable bottle habit is to think of it in the same way you do your car keys -- grab it every time you leave the house.

SKIP THE PLASTIC CUTLERY

Those takeouts we mentioned earlier? There’s a way to make them more environmentally friendly simply by asking them not to include plastic utensils when you place your order (most restaurants throw them in without asking.) If you are bringing that takeout home, then there’s no need for additional cutlery anyway, and if you’re planning on chowing down at the beach or on the road, make sure you keep a reusable cutlery set up like the Mizu Cutlery Set in the glove box or your backpack. Easy! And if you need more convincing that single-use plastic cutlery is a huge problem, check out this short video The Story of A Spoon

GET YOUR CAFFEINE FIX RESPONSIBLY

If you’re a coffee drinker (who isn’t?!) then you probably stop by a coffee shop once in a while. While we might be living in some unusual times right now during a global pandemic, in normal times most coffee shops will allow you to fill your own reusable coffee cup rather than indulge in yet more disposable plastic. According to earthday.org 16 billion disposable coffee cups are used each year. These are coated with plastic to laminate the inside and use plastic lids. Try one of these or these instead.

While we know there are so many single-use products contributing to our global plastic crisis, we focus on the Top 3. To make it easier for our consumers to stock up, we offer the Big 3 Kit which features The M8, a single wall 25 oz bottle to keep you hydrated all day long, our Tumbler 16, which comes with a matching press on lid for coffee on-the-go, and the Mizu Cutlery Set, which includes a fork, spoon, chopsticks, a knife and the all new two-piece stainless steel and silicone tip straw.
